Australia, New Zealand (ANZ), 20 March 2026. Opella has received $1.94 million in funding from the Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA) to deliver an Australian manufacturing first: a major site decarbonization project at its facility in North Brisbane. By leveraging an innovative heat pump electrification approach to dehumidification, the project aims to revolutionize energy use and carbon reduction practices in manufacturing.
This comprehensive solution is projected to achieve an annual reduction of ~1200 tonnes of CO₂, with only a modest ~2% increase in electrical consumption, demonstrating exceptional efficiency in carbon reduction. As a purpose-driven healthcare company, this concrete emissions elimination project in the ANZ market positions Opella to further its global leadership in sustainability. This marks a significant milestone that helps the B Corp certified company achieve its net-zero goals.
Lee Coomber, General Manager Opella ANZ.
The ARENA funding is strong recognition and support for the Opella Dehumidification and Heat Pump Electrification Project. Here Opella is able to showcase how traditional energy-intensive processes can be reimagined and electrified, bringing us one step closer to a decarbonized manufacturing sector.
The Opella ANZ site already operates on 100% renewable electricity, including 2,700 solar panels, providing around 22% of the site's total electricity. This electrification project is the next frontier in sustainability, eliminating gas as a fuel source and setting a new benchmark for sustainable manufacturing.
