France, 22 July 2026 – Opella inaugurates a new state-of-the-art production line for Enterogermina in Mexico following a $70 million USD investment.

The global probiotics market is experiencing strong double-digit growth (12.8%¹), driven by increasing consumer awareness of the connection between gut microbiome health and overall wellbeing. This milestone expands production capacity for one of the world's leading probiotics and strategically regionalizes manufacturing for the Americas, strengthening supply resilience and improving access to trusted digestive health solutions.

Rafik Amrane, Chief Supply Chain Officer at Opella.
This new production line in Mexico is a crucial step forward in our broader mission to build a highly resilient, global manufacturing network. By increasing our production capacity and being closer to the markets we serve, we are fundamentally changing how we deliver care, ensuring that our science-backed solutions are consistently available to the millions of families who rely on them.

The highly automated facility in Ocoyoacac will add an annual capacity of 200 million mini-bottles. It will serve as a complementary regional hub to Opella’s historic plant in Origgio, Italy, which will continue its vital role as the global Center of Excellence for Enterogermina. Together, these dual hubs are strategically positioned to absorb the projected double digit global market growth without disruption to existing operations.

Beyond expanding access, the new line advances Opella's environmental commitments as a globally certified B Corp company. The site operates on 100% renewable electrical energy, has reduced CO₂ emissions by 80% since 2019, and maintains a zero-waste-to-landfill model, demonstrating that increased access to healthcare can align with sustainable manufacturing practices.

Luis Soares, General Manager of Opella in Mexico.
With this new production line, we are strengthening Mexico’s role as a strategic platform for advanced pharmaceutical manufacturing and exports to Latin America. It will also enable us to increase the share of Opella products sold in Mexico that are locally manufactured from 60% to 80%, combining stronger, sustainable local production with greater regional reach.

For Opella, supply chain resilience is a strategic growth driver. Backed by the highest international pharmaceutical standards, proactive investments like the Ocoyoacac expansion advance Opella's commitment to simplifying healthcare, protecting the environment, and expanding access to world-class treatments globally.

Following rigorous qualification and regulatory approvals, the new production line will progressively scale operations to bring the product to shelves across the Americas in the 2027-2028 period.
