Opella is a multinational group that includes Opella Healthcare with its affiliates and subsidiaries (collectively “Opella”, “we”, or “us”).
Your Personal Data (or Data) is any information that is about you, or is related to you and used to learn, evaluate, or decide something about you. Opella understands the importance of privacy and the protection of Personal Data and is committed to ensure protection and security of Data we process.
This Privacy Notice is intended to inform the public that we collect and analyze publicly available Personal Data available on online sources, such as social media platforms, blogs, forums, review sites, search engines, and ecommerce platforms, for the purpose of social listening, benchmarking, and analytics.
These activities help Opella understand trends, perceptions, public expectations, and broader market dynamics. They support the company’s ability to improve products, services, and communication strategies, and to identify general insights relating to therapeutic areas, product use, or market sentiment.
Who is responsible for using and protecting your Data.
Opella Healthcare Group SAS (“we”, “us”), a company with registered office in 157 Avenue Charles De Gaulle 92200 Neuilly-sur-Seine (France) is responsible for the use of your Personal Data (“Data”), as described in this Privacy Notice and according to applicable data protection laws
What Data we collect and why.
Only information that individuals have made publicly available is collected. This may include:
- Personal identification data, such as publicly visible usernames or profile elements.
- Images, such as profile pictures or pictures and videos included in posts.
- Social information, such as posts, comments, reactions, replies, hashtags, product reviews, ratings, questions, or comments on e-commerce platforms.
- Interactions and activity logs, such as search queries and keyword trends related to product categories or therapeutic areas. This data is collected in an aggregate / non personal status, although it is derived from individual search activities. We never have access to never have access to individual search activities.
Although this information qualifies as Personal Data, it typically does not include details that allow Opella to directly identify an individual, and Opella does not combine it with other data for identification purposes.
The collected information is used to pursue the legitimate interest of the controller and its affiliates in developing and improve their products and services, in particular by:
- analyzing sentiments, themes, emerging expectations, or concerns;
- benchmarking and comparing perceptions across product categories or therapeutic areas;
- gaining aggregated insights to improve user experience and communication;
- detecting broad market or public health trends.
This processing of Data is not intended to learn, decide, predict, evaluate, or draw conclusions about any specific individual. The objective is strictly to understand general patterns and public discussions at an aggregated level.
Due to the nature of free‑text fields, some ‘Social Information’ such as product comments or reviews may contain any type of unstructured information, including special category of data such as, for example, health‑related information about the author or other individuals, as well as reports of events relevant for pharmacovigilance or concerning the quality of a product.
When this happens, do not use this content for purposes other than those previously specified, except for complying with our legal obligations related to pharmacovigilance, product quality, or safety reporting requirements. Any processing of such information for these purposes is carried out strictly in accordance with applicable laws and regulatory obligations.
How we collect the Data.
Publicly available data is collected from social media platforms, e-commerce platforms and search platforms and then processed through third-party software licensed to Opella.
In particular, we rely on the following tools:

- TalkWalker – Social media posts and comments - https://www.talkwalker.com/
- DigAi – Social media videos - https://dig.ai/
- Trajaan – Search data and trends - https://trajaan.io
Some of the tools we use include features supported by Artificial Intelligence technologies, which assist in analyzing publicly available information. When this occurs, we ensure that such technologies are used in accordance with the applicable regulatory requirements.
Who can access your Data.
Only authorized recipients have access to Personal Data to perform the activities described above. Such recipients may include:
- employees and staff of Opella affiliates and subsidiaries;
- our partners such as service providers and contractors, acting upon our instructions, supporting us in the activities described above.
Whenever required by the applicable laws, we enter into contractual agreements with these recipients to ensure they provide adequate data protection measures, they commit not to use the Data for purposes other than those described in this Privacy Notice and cooperate with us to ensure that your rights can be effectively exercised.
Where is your Data processed.
We are part of a multinational group with employees, affiliates, partners and service providers located around the world. Consequently, your Data may be processed in and accessed from countries where different data protection laws apply.
When Personal Data is transferred to or accessed from other jurisdictions, we adopt one of the mechanisms provided by the law to ensure an equivalent level of protection of your Data in the destination country. This includes, for example, the adoption of Standard Contractual Clauses.
How long we keep the Data.
The Data will be kept for a period not exceeding the time necessary to achieve the purposes for which it was collected.
In particular:
- Data obtained from social media is processed for a maximum of 2 years. The processing ceases anyway if the Data is removed by author from the social media platform;
- Data obtained from e-Commerce platforms is processed as long as the relevant product is sold online;
- Aggregate search and trends information is stored for a maximum of 4 years. As previously indicated, this does not qualify as personal data.
At the end of the processing, the Data is permanently removed from our tools.
How we protect the Data.
While we strive to protect your Data, no transmission, use or storage of information can be guaranteed as 100% secure. To protect your Data, we adopt technical and organizational measures aimed at reasonably mitigating the risk that such Data is leaked, lost, or used for unauthorized purposes.
If a security incident occurs and affects your Personal Data, we will take reasonable actions to mitigate possible impacts on concerned individuals. When the incident is likely to result in serious harm, this may include a notification to concerned individuals or to competent authorities.
Data subject rights.
Individuals have rights regarding their Personal Data which include:
- have access to, and receive a copy of their Data;
- obtain the rectification of their Data, should it be inaccurate, incomplete, or obsolete;
- obtain the deletion of their Data in situations set forth by applicable data protection laws;
- withdraw consent to data processing at any time, without affecting the lawfulness of processing, where their Data has been collected and processed on the basis of your consent;
- object to the processing of their Data, where it has been collected and processed on the basis of our legitimate interests;
- request a limitation of data processing activities, in the situations set forth by applicable laws;
- request that some of the Data they provided to us is brought to them, or to another company, in a commonly used, machine-readable format.
